__WILL MEGARRY
Will Megarry is an archaeologist and heritage management specialist based in Northern Ireland. He is currently Focal Point for Climate Change at the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and Senior Lecturer in Archaeology at Queens University Belfast. Born in Dublin, he completed his degrees at Trinity College Dublin (BA), University College London (MSc) and University College Dublin (PhD). He has worked in both the university sector in Europe and the USA and in commercial consultancy. His primary research focuses on the intersections between climate change and cultural heritage with a particular focus on understanding climate risk and climate communication. He is also an active field archaeologist with an ongoing project exploring life on the edge of Europe in the Neolithic through stone tool production on the Shetland Islands in Scotland. He has directed a number of recent projects exploring climate change and global heritage. These include the UK Government-funded CVI Africa project, which explored climate preparedness at heritage sites in Africa, and the Google Arts and Culture-funded Heritage on the Edge project, which explored the wider impacts of climate change on communities through the lens of five UNESCO World Heritage properties. He was also co-chair of the recent ICOMOS-UNESCO-IPCC Co-Sponsored Meeting on Culture, Heritage and Climate Change and is currently the training and workshop coordinator on the National Geographic-funded Preserving Legacies project.
