MARIA JOSÉ DE FREITAS

Maria José Freitas graduated of the Superior School of Architecture and has a PhD in World Heritage of Portuguese Influence, with a thesis on Macau’s Identity 25 years after the handover. Author of a variety of projects related

to architectural renewal, housing, industry and touristic development in Macau, Guangzhou and Bahrain, Freitas coordinated the “Strategic Plan for the Sintra World Heritage Cultural Landscape, UNESCO” (2005). For the Administration

of Macau, she made the project and design for the Tourism Office Visitor Information Kiosks (2014) and Taipa Post Office renovation and expansion works (2019) winning an Award of Excellence AAM 2018 with this project. Before that, Maria José Freitas prepared and supervised the renovation of the Taipa Houses Museum. Nowadays, she is a member of the Macau Cultural Heritage Council

and President of the ICOMOS ISCSBH (2025).
